This year, noted Malayalam poet PN Gopikrishnan received the coveted Odakkuzhal Award for his poetry book, 'Kavitha Mamsabhojiyanu.'

The Guruvayoorappan Trust will hold the award ceremony on February 2, 2024, which is the death anniversary of Malayalam poet G Sankarakurup. Professor M Lilavati, the Trust President, will present the award to Gopikrishnan at the ceremony.

Dr. EV Ramakrishnan, a renowned literary critic, will also deliver a keynote talk during the occasion. The Odakkuzhal Award includes a large financial reward of Rs 30,000, a commemorative citation, and a one-of-a-kind sculpture.

The award committee praised Gopikrishnan's work, noting: "His poems are not mere fleeting expressions, but rather, they are magical inscriptions that transcend the limitations of language itself. They delve into the very essence of human experience, serving as profound reflections of social realities and insightful visions that pierce through the layers of our contemporary world.”

Established in 1968 by Mahakavi G Sankarakurup, India's first Jnanpith laureate, the Guruvayoorappan Trust has a long history of recognising and honouring literary brilliance in Malayalam. The Odakkuzhal Award, presented annually on the most excellent literary work of the year, exemplifies the Trust's continuous dedication to cultivating and promoting Malayalam literature.
